(Originally published Feb 2024 in Stewart island News) Exciting news for fans of convenience- Stewart island electric bikes have recently

invested in a cargo e-bike and will be trialing a delivery service on the island.

Our idea is simple : Save your precious time and avoid yet another car trip to the busy

wharf/post office/restaurant. Pay us to pick up and drop off things for you instead. Get

food/luggage/parcels delivered right to your doorstep!

Our new cargo bike is also available to hire for suitably skilled customers . The rear seat can fit two young kids on it !

You may have spotted the new bright orange bike around town already . This 'benno

boost' is capable of carrying up to 60 kg on the rear carrier and 25kg on the front.

We have dubbed this new addition to the fleet "ikiiiki"- which means : 1. (verb) (-tia) to transport, carry away.

We will be working with local eateries to get some food delivery options set up. Keep an

eye out for some flyers and posters in the next few weeks for more info. Ikiiki eats

coming soon...

A thank you note from Stewart Island electric bikes to locals :

We have gotten lots of feedback from customers about how friendly and helpful

islanders are. Visitors are clearly leaving with a wonderful impression of our community.

We are grateful to be part of such an awesome little town and would like to say a big

thank you to Rakiura residents for the following:

  1. Thank you for showing patience and courtesy when large groups of e-bikers take over the roads -sorry about the customers who ignore our instructions & our multiple "keep left!!" stickers.

  2. Thank you for slowing down and giving space when passing cyclists. Your relaxed driving speed also prevents penguin pancakes; so thank you on behalf of the little blues too .

  3. And finally a huge thank you to those who have helped out when a cyclist has gotten a flat tire or a broken chain . More than once locals have pulled up in a ute with a bike on the deck and a tourist in the passenger seat. We really appreciate your kindness.

As always if you ever encounter a bike customer in trouble you can always give us a ring -our number is on the side of the bikes.

Cheers everyone, 🙂
